1. Don’t start a cleanse you can’t finish.
When you begin any nutrition program, it is important to choose the one that is the best fit for you personally. Just because you can’t commit to making your own green juice for 10 days doesn’t mean detox isn’t right for you! Be realistic and don’t get discouraged. Have a big holiday party to attend tomorrow? Maybe wait a few days to get started so you aren’t miserable at your celebration. There are plenty of options available, including fresh food cleanses and 3-day detox programs.
2. Don’t skip part of the plan.
You may find it hard to eat (or drink) everything on the menu, especially during the first day or two. Six juices might seem like a lot to consume in a single day, but if you schedule reminders to drink each one it will be a lot easier to stay on track. On days 2 and 3, you’ll be happy you didn’t skip those extra calories.
3. Don’t overdo it.
Listen to your body while you’re limiting your caloric intake. If you feel like exercising, go for it, but don’t overexert yourself. Keep in mind that you have less fuel to burn and it’s okay to take it a easy for a few days.
4. Don’t cheat.
This might sound obvious, but trust us, on day 3 you’ll probably, at least once, consider sneaking just one piece of cheese or candy. Stay strong and finish what you started, you’ll be happy you did.
5. Don’t expect a miracle.
Like anything related to your health, big changes usually take time. A detox is only designed to jumpstart weight-loss and other positive health changes. Don’t write your cleanse off as a failure if you don’t feel like an entirely new person after just 3 days, good things are in the works.
6. Don’t undo all of your hard work!
As tempting as it may be to order a pizza for breakfast the day after your cleanse ends, don’t do it! Ease back into your regular diet and with an emphasis on eating high-quality, clean foods even after your detox is over.
