As we shift gears to winter, new fruits and vegetables are coming into season. Eating foods that are in season adds variety to your diet and ensures you are eating the freshest ingredients because they were just harvested. Our favorite seasonal ingredients for winter are healthy, delicious, full of antioxidants and also fun to eat! Look for these seasonal winter ingredients at your local farmer’s market or grocery store.
Nuts can be a part of your healthy snack mix during a football bowl game and they can also add crunch to a pasta dish like our Butternut Squash Pasta. Pears are exceptionally healthy, and can be made into everything from sweet chips to delicious tartes. Antioxidant-rich pomegranates are sometimes intimidating, however they make beautiful garnishes for drinks, salads, and more. Turnips may seem the least exciting among these seasonal treats, but even the lowly turnip can be transformed when roasted. Recently, our Culinary Creative Director, Libbie Summers, even used turnips as the inspiration for a food-inspired holiday lunch. Here are some tips for finding the best nuts, pears, pomegranates and turnips and using them this season.
