With Father’s Day coming up this weekend, we took some time in the TK office over lunch to share some of the lessons we learned from our fathers over the years. From careers, to relationships, to fixing things around the house, and even cooking, our dads certainly taught us a thing or two.
Here are a few of our favorite pieces of advice bestowed on us by our dads.
"Never use your teeth as a tool." –Robert Patrick, aeronautical engineer, from Libbie
“If there is a YouTube tutorial out there, you should be fixing it yourself.” -Gary Fritz, Justine's Dad
"Always make time for your wife and make sure that you keep her and working at your marriage as a top priority over everything else. Not to say that you love, support or provide for your children any less but if you are not a good husband, that is going to break the family unit from the top down and that could end up making you a poor father.” - Al Tyler Sr., Tyler’s Dad
“You run with dogs, you get fleas.” -Mr. McDevitt, Mike’s Dad
"Let's practice good first time listening" -Brad Jiulianti, Melissa’s Husband’s constant mantra in a household with a 3- and 5-year old
Advice for Tough Times
“Eat the elephant one bite at a time” -Col. Steven Nichols, Zach’s Dad
“Don't panic, adjust.” -Brian Gleason’s Dad
“Not how far you fall, it’s how high you bounce.” -Mr. McDevitt, Mike’s Dad
"Today is a great day to be alive, even if it is raining" -Jack H. Nichols, Zach’s Grandfather
Sports & Career Advice
“You can do anything boys can do.” -Ed Davis, Lisa’s Dad
“Do what you love.” -Mr. McDevitt, Melissa’s Dad Extraordinaire (& FBI special agent in his spare time)
“There is never time to do it right, but always time to do it over.” - James Hershner Sr.- Jaime Elwood's dad
“Everyday's a winner.” -Al Cheskin, Lisa’s Dad
"You have to play in order to win" -Mike Reamy’s Dad
“Undercook the brownies” -Jayson Pollard, Megan Pollard’s Husband
"Never cook bacon when you're naked" -Mike Reamy’s Dad
