Cookout season is an all-time favorite for everyone. They’re fun for your family and your friends (even the whole neighborhood, if you’re feeling ambitious). But you don’t want to be stuck cooking the same meals week in and week out. This summer, take the traditional cookout we’re all familiar with and turn it up a notch.
Themes are a good way to tie everything together and turn any occasion into a fun get-together for the whole gang. Here are three totally different cookout menus to use when you're ready to fire up the grill this summer.
1.) Gameday BBQ.
Baseball season is in full swing, so that means hot dogs and other grilled gameday foods. Our Ball Hawk Sliders (named after former Baltimore Raven Ed Reed) are a favorite around the TK office. Combining chipotle-spiced onions with a slider-sized turkey burger creates the perfect combination of heat in a burger that isn’t too big. Prefer something more traditional like a hot dog? Add some balance to your favorite dog by with unconventional toppings like pickled vegetables or even a deconstructed Caprese salad.
While you’re cooking up your gameday feast, don’t forget to have tortilla chips and pico de gallo ready as an appetizer for the grillmaster and guests. As a side dish, pasta salad is always a hit, and our Greek Pasta Salad will help by sneaking in a few greens onto your table. Even though you have to head out to the game, don’t forget dessert. Bring some Ginger-Cantaloupe Popsicles for your walk to the stadium!
2.) Smoking Hot Date Night.
You don’t have to leave the comfort of your backyard to enjoy a special meal together. Relax, stay in, and savor the extra daylight hours al fresco. You won’t be rushed by your server tonight, so take your time and start the night off with a cheese plate, a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon, and some #tabletalk. For the next course, match your salad to the season with our Berry Balsamic Salad. It has just about everything you could want -- from spinach, seasonal blueberries, goat cheese and walnuts. Not only is this salad delicious, it packs tons of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory qualities that will leave you feeling amazing.
While you’re enjoying your first courses, your Balsamic Mushroom-Pepper Steaks can be cooking simultaneously on the grill. We use organic grass-fed beef, which is the same quality you will see in your favorite restaurants these days. After dinner, close the night with a nightcap. We are really digging the Shake It Loose cocktail from Belle Isle Moonshine, and don’t forget to take a picture to remember this date!
3.) Above-Average Grill Sesh.
We love a classic cookout, but any backyard get together can be improved by a few insider tricks. First, keep the kids busy with a craft! These DIY placemats use colored tape that you probably already have at home and are easy to wipe off if, just kidding, when, they get dirty. Set out some finger foods like our Hummus with Multigrain Pita and Veggies keep everyone satiated while you socialize and cook. Pour the adults glasses of Watermelon Mojitos (a pink TK take on the classic drink) and you’re ready to start cooking!

Since you’re probably serving a crowd, try one of our new family meals like our Barbecued Chicken with Summer Tomato-Corn Salad. The salad is perfect to assign to that one person who really wants to help with dinner. All they have to do is toss cherry tomatoes, avocado, and cilantro with corn, arugula, and dressing and it’s amazing! If you want to take your chicken to the next level, try wrapping the chicken in bacon before grilling. Trust us on this one -- everyone loves bacon! Don’t forget about vegetarian friends who might be coming to the party, too! Our Spicy Quinoa Salad can serve as both a side or a main course for anyone who isn’t into BBQ chicken.
