Meatless Monday - Beyond Burger

The hashtag #MeatlessMonday is all over social media at the beginning of the week, but did you ever wonder where it all started? Meatless Monday is associated with the non-profit initiative of The Monday Campaigns, in association with the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Its now an international phenomenon and a movement that aims to help individuals reduce their meat consumption, starting just one day a a time. If you’ve considered committing to Meatless Mondays in the new year, here are just a few of the benefits of kicking off the week with a few vegetarian meals.

1. Improved health

Enjoying plant-based meals can help keep your cholesterol low to protect your heart. You’ll also be reducing your sugar intake and you’ll feel full longer because of all of the dietary fiber in vegetables.

2. Reduced environmental impact

The amount of water and land required for plant-based agriculture, compared to livestock is significantly lower. So, eating a salad or plant-based burger on Monday means that you’re doing your part to reduce both your water usage as well as the carbon emissions associated with raising livestock.

3. Discovering new foods

You won’t have to eat boring salads on Mondays, there are infinite possibilities in the plant-based world and thanks to innovative companies like Beyond Meat®, The Future of Protein™ is here! Their Beyond Burgers® look cook and taste just like beef, so you won’t even feel like you’re missing out while you’re making a difference.

4. Saving money

More often than not, the costs associated with preparing a vegetarian meal are way less than purchasing meat. This is because meat requires more resources to produce as well as more packaging and transportation resources to bring it to your grocery store. Head to the produce section or the vegetarian section of our menu and you’ll be able to get everything you need for significantly less money.

5. And possibly losing weight

As long as you make good meatless meal choices that focus on plants (and not pasta!) there’s a good chance you’ll even lose weight. Since vegetables are full of nutrients and dietary fiber to help you feel full, so you won’t overeat.
