With autumn in full swing, days are getting shorter and schedules are getting more packed. It can start to feel like you are simply going through the motions of your weekly routine, and if that is the case, it may be time for some new inspiration. Here are a few things to try if you are stuck in a rut or simply looking for your next creative spark. As you work through this list, each of these things will help you to reset if needed and stay on track in the long run as you work towards creating the best life possible.
.) Make a plan (but don’t over plan). It is wonderful to have concrete goals, but it is important to remember that you can’t control everything along the way. While keeping your goals in mind, simply focus on being present. With a mindful attention to the present, you can be sure that you won’t miss any inspiration that is right in front of you. Many people find it helpful to use mantras, quotes or phrases, to turn their focus back to their personal intention. This is a good way to remember both your starting point as well as where you hope to end up.
.) Take self-care seriously. Self-care can mean anything from sleeping an extra hour on Saturday, to cooking healthy food, or even springing for a bouquet that you know will make you smile. Yoga is a self-care ritual that many people enjoy. By setting aside time to practice yoga, you are not only getting a good workout, you can forget your outside responsibilities and turn your focus inward, even if it is only for 60 minutes.
.) Simplify. If you are feeling overwhelmed, it is okay to take a step back and get rid of some of the clutter. That may mean organizing and getting rid of actual junk, but it also may mean saying no more often and minimizing your obligations. Try taking a break from social media for a few days, doing a 30 minute closet clean-out or quickly decluttering your kitchen counters for some fast impact. When you scale back from wanting all of the things, it is easier to appreciate what you really value.
.) Learn something new. This is one of the best ways to get out of any rut. By getting out of your comfort zone you are flexing your intellectual muscles and strengthening your self esteem at the same time. Weather you are interested in trying stand up comedy, trying your hand at macrame, or learning how to sauté, you are broadening your horizons, and you might even discover your true passion along the way. Debbie Mandel, author of Addicted to Stress explains that, "Cooking is a great destresser because it serves as a creative outlet. While stress can numb your senses, cooking activates them. It's a sensory experience with aroma, taste, touch, visual delight and even sizzling sound." Try a few new recipes like our Seared Chicken with Creamy Avocado Basil Pasta or our Beef Ragu with Spinach-Parmesan Polenta to keep learning without adding any extra work on your end. With pre-prepped ingredients, our meal kits even allow you to cook fresh meals without taking a lot of time.
.) Take time to connect. Being inspired isn’t just about setting your own direction. Spending time and connecting with others can be one of the most motivating things you can do. Not only will you take something away from your time together, you may end up inspiring them too! Connecting over a meal and talking about current projects and future aspirations can conjure up new enthusiasm on both sides of the table. Plus, what would be better than collaborating with someone you love on your next big venture.
.) Give thanks. A big part of moving forward is expressing gratitude and acknowledging what you already have. If you make this a part of your daily routine, you will start to find that you can find things to be grateful for everywhere if you look hard enough.
