"Polished In A Pinch:" How to Make Sparkle Slime

Posted by Libbie Summers on Thu, Jun 8, '17

When I was a kid, Silly Putty was a thing –a magical stretchy substance that came in a red plastic egg, was the color of a swimmer's nose clip and could keep this young girl busy for hours.  Enter SLIME...the new Silly Putty! I dare you to not feel like a kid when you put your fingers in this intriguing goo!

“Polished in a Pinch” is our weekly lifestyle series featuring Terra's Kitchen Creative Culinary Director, Libbie Summers. Each week, Libbie will share a new hack, tip, or recipe to take things to the next level in a short amount of time.

The fun isn’t just in playing with the slime, it’s in the scientific magic that happens as it takes form. The perfect craft to make with your littles or, if you’re like me, just make a batch for yourself. Just remember, like everything in life, the sparkle is optional.

Sparkle Slime (makes 1 ball)

What you need:

1 tablespoon Borax

1 ½ cups hot water, divided

8 ounces Elmers® white or clear school glue

Food coloring (I used blue)

2 tablespoons glitter (silver or gold), optional

What to do:

In a small bowl, stir Borax into ½ cup hot water until fully dissolved.

In a medium bowl, whisk the glue and remaining 3/4 cup hot water together. Pour the remaining ¼ cup hot water into the glue bottle and shake around to get out the last of the glue. Stir in food coloring until desired color is achieved (start with a little). I used 1 heavy drop of liquid blue food coloring for the pale blue and 1 heavy drop of pink for the pale pink. (At this point you can add the glitter. I usually add it in the next step.)

Using a rubber spatula, slowly stir the Borax mixture into the glue mixture and watch the magic happen. Sprinkle glitter over and knead slime with your hands until fully together.

Now the fun part! PLAY!!!

Note: Store Sparkle Slime in a zip lock bag. If slime gets in hair, remove with vinegar.
