Snow Day Tablescape Inspiration

Written by Terra's Kitchen | Thu, Dec 22, '16

If you are in peak holiday shopping mode, you probably don’t have time for an elaborate tablescape craft project that will be out of date in a few weeks. There are plenty of places to find inspiration for the “perfect” holiday DIY, but we like ideas that are inexpensive, easy, and designed to last past the holiday season. We were inspired by the cozy plaid knits of winter and upcycled pumpkins from fall to create a quick and impactful snow day place setting that will carry you from Christmas through 2017.

To start creating this tablescape at home, you need to collect a few items that you probably have around your house. You will need 2-3 winter scarves depending on your table size. We chose shades of blue, but reds, greens, or even pinks and purples would work. Use what you have and don’t be afraid to mix colors and textures. While you are looking in your winter things, pull out 2-3 pairs of mittens that coordinate with the scarves you chose.

The next step is to upcycle your fall pumpkins with a watercolor paint job. You can use any mini pumpkins you have left over from your fall decorations. We started with a small white pumpkin and used a grey chalkboard paint that we thinned down with water to paint the pumpkin. This gives the pumpkin a frosty, winterized look. You can use any color of paint that you have on hand. We painted the stems silver.

Now that you have all of the supplies that you need, you are ready to start styling your table. Use one or two of your scarves as table runners and place your watercolor pumpkins on top in the middle of the table. Place a grey mitten on each plate with a name card tucked inside. We decided to keep the dishes simple, but opted for fun plaid glassware from Fishs Eddy that can be used all year long!
