Tilapia the Sustainable Way

Tilapia is a white fish that is high in vitamins and minerals while being relatively low in calories. It’s an excellent source of protein, vitamins D and B12 and contains other nutrients like vitamin B-6, magnesium, iron and potassium. Tilapia is a favorite among many because of its mild and versatile taste. But because tilapia tends to take on the flavors of their surroundings, it’s important to source this fish from clean, stable environments.

Lately there has been controversy surrounding fish farming, especially the use of unregulated, foreign sources. This highlights the dangers of mercury, PCB’s, over use of antibiotics and the presence of other toxins. Since Tilapia tends to take on the flavors of their surroundings, environments that are stagnant, muddy and unfiltered tend to produce products that are not only unpleasant tasting, but contain potential health hazards.

Our supplier, Quixotic Farming, raises sustainable tilapia right here in the United States in an aquaponic environment that is continuously being filtered with fresh water. This environment allows the fish to be constantly monitored and cared for and it’s the next best alternative to wild caught tilapia. Their products never contain added hormones or antibiotics, and meets the lowest possible standard of mercury.

Terra's Kitchen is dedicated to sourcing fresh, sustainable, quality ingredients; in all aspects. We believe in being transparent; it’s your right to know where your food is coming from.
